    I remembered Charlie when reading this piece. I have realized this long ago though it seems that many still believe this phrase. I just don't mind them. Its sad that they will never know how dogs enriches our lives.

    What an excellent essay! I have never heard of it before, and neither has my human, so thank you for sharing! I know sometimes my human hears the comment "just a dog" and we both just look at each other and wish they could understand the beauty and wonder of owing one of me! (OK, owning any dog!! or kitty!! or bird!!) :->
