I'm happy...

It was 44 years we spent together. It's challenging to understand true love but we experienced it as we shared our life together as soul mates.

She and I, we were together during crises. We quit our jobs...we packed up and left Chicago to move to Albuquerque. We shared the joy of seeing our nieces and nephews start their careers, we mourned the departure of loved ones side by side, we embraced each other in the waiting rooms of many hospitals, we supported each other in pain, we hugged each morning, and we forgave our mistakes...

I'm happy, do you know why? Because Sue left before me. I always imagined that I would go first. Sue was so competent in all things. But she didn't have to go through the agony and pain of cremating me, of being left alone after my departure. I'm the one to go through that, and I thank the Universe. I love her so much that I wouldn't have liked her to suffer like that...

I truly understand that sentiment. I grateful Tom didn’t have to go through the pain of grief.

Not everyone finds that kind of true love, such a blessing.
