April 21, 2022

I sat with Steve, Zsofia (the WDA's current leader), and Bailey (our peacekeeper). "I have a bold idea that I think we are ready to initiate but I will need each of you to be my behind-the-scenes intervention if it is needed," I began. "The more nonchalant this is, I believe, the higher its chance for success."

"Just TELL us, momma!" Zso pushed her face against my arm. "Details second, your plan NOW!"

"Both Lilly and Roman are making good progress in getting to know each other," I replied. "Did anyone else notice Roman slept outside the office gate last night? Lilly was against the other side. So what if we took the gates down today and let things go where they will? I think if we don't make a fuss about the lack of separation they will figure out how to share our home space. And if I am wrong, we will be ready to reestablish  their usual boundaries without harm.

Bailey responded first. "Momma, they already do well in the yard and Roman walks right by Lilly if he is following dad. Let's give it a try."

Steve was a bit more cautious. "During dinner and treats I think I would prefer separation; both are a bit food possessive. And most certainly Lilly needs to be gated in the office at night. I will just quietly move the gate aside and sit down at my desk. Let's see how this goes. I agree, it is time."

Zso nodded at Bai. "We will just casually go hang out in the living room where we can make sure everyone is nice and has manners. And dad, at least for the first couple of times, you should go out in the yard if both are out there together. Just to make sure we all stay safe."

Opal came rushing in and jumped on the bed to alert me of a security breech when the gate was removed. I wrapped my arm around her and swore her in as a deputy.

To say the day was uneventful is a good thing...actually, a marvelous thing. There was not even any snarky talking. Dinner was served, as aways, with everypup in their usual place; we felt that this was a good opportunity to end the day's experiment before tiredness kicked in. We have been lavish in praise and high fives to all for tis accomplishment under the stress of completing the plumbing project. There were LOTS of distractions.

I am not so new to this rodeo to believe that we will get the same perfect results tomorrow. I look up to the stars and thank our Angel Army for guiding us through this new step...I ask them to fill the hearts of Roman and Lilly with pride and confidence enough to make it through Day 2, tomorrow.

Time and love, I smile to myself.
