One constantly interesting thing to having an Army is "Pack Learning." Most new recruits never need human help mastering the dog door to the yard; the WDA uses their "follow me" method and in no time every pup is running in and out without hinderance. It is the same with treat time; a new kid is shown the proper protocol of sitting politely and waiting for his or her turn to accept a snack. Any lapses are called out as the offender is sent by the others to the end of the line.
Pack Learning also works in reverse; where the newbie introduces a new behavior to the WDA. For example, until Trixie arrived to teach Zsofia, we NEVER had any counter surfers. Zsofia never considered herself tall enough (in her mind she was a Sachi-sized White Dog). Trixie, the Queen of CS, opened Zso's eyes and expanded her skills which have been further honed by Bailey and now, Lilly.
With the addition of Lilly, the pack has been shown a new trick...the over-excited drool. When our Big Girl is anticipating something good she releases long slimy strings of drool. It is, I think, her way of sharing her joy. The past few days I have observed that "The Drool" is now being mimicked by Zsofia, Opal, and Bailey as well Roman. It is like handing out treats to a band of toothless happy octogenarians.
This morning I was slimed simply in anticipation of morning hugs and greetings...it was precious in a sticky wet way...and it was a daily double since I was hit again at coffee time. Drool-y coffee did not seem to put any of the Coffee Club off of their drink although I was grateful that long ago we designated a WDA cup exclusively for their use.
I love this! Yes, it's amazing what the OG pack members can teach the newbies. I sure do miss my morning coffee that looked a lot like yours! Enjoy! xo
