White Dog's adventure into the East Mountains to pick up lumber from Reynard's house was enhanced because Steve, Adam and Reynard were too busy sorting and loading to keep White Dog under scrutiny. Consequently, she roamed far from her normal range along the cattle road--sniffing and exploring. She was whistled back only when her prowling figure neared the edge of the deeper woods, where coyotes actually live.
