White Dog did not understand why Mary and Maurice were so standoffish to her, especially after the rousing barking welcome she sang to them. She stuck by Steve's side the entire evening and napped through conversation. After they left, I explained to White Dog that Mary and Maurice were shy and afraid of dogs due to an incident with a large dog that occurred when their kids were small. White Dog felt better that it wasn't a personal affront. After Steve added that they were cockatiel owners for god's sake, White Dog agreed to be patient in winning them over.
