White Dog's task today was to watch and let me know when the UPS guy delivered the artisanal cheeses we had ordered. I wasn't sure whether a signature would be required but I did want to get the perishables in the refrigerator ASAP. All morning she sat at her window perch watching. At lunch White Dog took a brief break for food and relief but kept close tabs on movements near the door. She even took her after lunch siesta on the chair cushion by the window so she would be alerted by the sound of the truck stopping. By $:30pm White Dog was questioning whether the package would ever arrive! Ten minutes later, UPS delivered. Excitedly we both brought in the box. White Dog thoroughly sniffed the outside. Then we ripped open the package to reveal beautiful buttery Brillat-Savarin and Cabecou Feuille (goat cheese with peppercorns and wrapped in wine soaked chestnut leaves) and Tomme de Savoie from the French Alps. We both inhaled the fabulous aromas and thought about scarfing the cheese ourselves before anyone else even knew they had arrived. Fortunately, we came to our senses. White Dog carefully and closely supervised as I placed the luscious bites into the cheese keeper of the frig and shut the door.
