White Dog and Steve proudly set up dinner on the freshly painted screened front porch. They had worked most of the afternoon (Steve sweated; White Dog supervised) painting over the 40-year-old pink stucco, cleaning and reassembling the space, and it looked great. The table filled with Chef Richard's chicken enchiladas, Spanish rice, and cowboy beans invited us to sit in the pleasant shade sharing food, companionship and a beautiful sunset. White Dog has been promised the bone from the ham hock Richard used to flavor the long-simmered beans but until then has "settled" for bites of chicken and ham and gravy-soaked tortilla...and ear massages from Richard!
