White Dog leaped from the bed where she lounged and tore through the dog door barking a full alert! I came hurrying to see what was causing such a reaction. A cat intruder had slipped down the wall into the yard and was stalking through the bushes! White Dog skidded to a stop a few feet from the black and white cat, floofed her coat so she looked bigger and let out a slow, deep growl. The cat froze; I could sense it mentally measuring the distance to the wall. It hissed and White Dog moved closer, making me fearful of an actual fight. But the cat knew it didn't belong and could tell White Dog was set to defend her land, so quick as a wink, the feline took two running lopes and hurled herself up the wall! White Dog stayed on alert, barking, to make sure she did not return and then patrolled a few perimeters of the yard to make sure no other intruders were hidden. White Dog napped on the deck (with one eye open) just to insure our safety.
