White Dog has come to know that the sound of the meat slicer equals leftover end bits for noshing. This afternoon when the whirr of Steve slicing the pork loin for Cuban sandwiches began White Dog came bounding out from her nap spot to let him know she was ready to do her part in eliminating scrap waste. The layers of thin pork slices intermixed with ham and melty Swiss cheese were slathered in mustard, garnished with dill pickles and placed on warm rolls. Everyone agreed (including White Dog and Dragon--no mustard please) that the black beans, rice, and fiery salsa rounded out a perfect autumn lunch...and Khyra, there was carrot CAKE with cream cheese icing after! The only thing that could top that was an after-lunch nap.
