November 7, 2009

White Dog is very disciplined and well-mannered. She is a girl who follows the rules and happily (for the most part) accepts the boundaries that have been established. There is one thing, however, that is her irresistible temptation...Kleenex, especially crumpled up used ones. White Dog loses all sense of decorum and reason when she happens across the wadded up tissues. She hides them in her mouth, refuses to "drop it", growls protectively, and has even been known to nip at the unsuspecting hand that reaches to take one from her. Steve has been suffering from a stuffy head the past few days and has filled the wastebasket with quite a few "temptations." White Dog knows not to go into the garbage and usually is fine with the rule...yesterday, though, I walked into the computer room to find White Dog, head in basket, mouth full of wadded whiteness. She ignored my commands and rushed past me into the bedroom. When I followed her and sat next to her she batted my hand and growled a throaty "get your own!" I sternly told her that she was being mean and that in our house we did NOT act like that. She contritely put her head in my lap to apologize but still did not give up her prize. Finally she yielded to my insistence and let go...but then ran right back to the wastebasket to grab a new one! (That is why our basket now sits on the side table!)

Heeheeeheee! We know many a terrier household that only has covered waste paper baskets for the same reason! Speaking of which ... we're wondering now why our moma hasn't gotten those for us ... hmmm ... now that we think about it, all the waste baskets are inside cabinets except for Our Girl's.

Be right back! Gotta go check something out!

We can so see this episode - TD loves anything that is paper. In the house he rarely has access to the wastebaskets, but on walks he just loves to snag every piece of paper, tissue, paper towel he can find. Luckily he is very good at the "leave it" command. Mom has no idea how he learned it so well. The only time he didn't obey was when he had that baby bunny:(

Hope that cold improves quickly for everyone's sake:)

Siku, you are so funny! I can see why tissues can be a temptation. They look like the stuffings from the inside of a stuffie.

Teddy Bear

Yay Siku!

I do the same thing but not only with kleenex, I get protective about anything on the floor I find interesting. I think that once its there and I got it first- its mine!

My mom usually tries to get it from me by offering a much better treat.

Love,
Charlie

Siku,

poor dad! we all will be thinking of him and hoping he gets better. Isis on the other hand steals cardboard. It's the only time she'll go in the trash is if she sees a bit of cardboard- even if it's too big for her to carry, she waddles around the house with it, sits at your feet and growls because she wants you to pretend to take it. We simply call the game, 'box'. As for your prize for helping with the walk a thon- please ask your mom if we can send it along with your bday, and xmas gifts- so that we only have to ship one box?
