White Dog did not understand why Michael was so angry when he came in from school today. He was stomping around and saying not nice words in a not nice tone of voice. It scared her and she refused to go to him to say hello. When Steve came in we raised an eyebrow and he shrugged, "this started when he had trouble closing his seatbelt." He stormed and yelled and was completely out of control. White Dog jumped up and hid behind my back. We tried to understand that this happens sometimes with autism but were glad when he finally thumped his way downstairs into his room and slammed the door. Later, when Steve coaxed Michael up to eat dinner, White Dog went to his side and put her paw on his leg. "Why is she doing that?" he asked, now much calmer and even contrite. "White Dog is trying to make sure you are alright. She was afraid that there was something really wrong before. Eskies are very sensitive to the moods of those they care about." "Does that mean she cares about me?" I let White Dog answer as she lay down next to him and asked for a belly rub.

There is simply a different form of communication between dogs and people. A form that some people understand better and more completely.

hey Siku Marie,
What a lovely story! You are a special pup to be so concerned about Micheal as you were, and then show him comfort and love. I am sure his outburst was scary. I hate when I hear humans yell and scream. It is very scary. Lucky, that rarely happens around me, and usually it is only when my human stubs her toe or something silly like that. So hopefully you won't hear it that often, but I understand that Michael can sometimes get easily frustrated and that is his way of dealing with his emotions. He means you no harm.
Glad you got a belly rub!
Suka
p.s. There is NO WAY your parents, or anyone, would love you less because another pup enters the family. Love is infinite; there is an endless well of love available. So, although they will love the new pup with all their hearts, that in no way depletes any of the love toward you. Do not fret. You are the Big Sis, Number One! You will always hold a special place in their hearts that no pup can take away!
White dog, that was an incredibly sweet and loving thing you did for michael.
Mom says she remembers being in a classroom with an autistic child when she was in high school. He got so mad, he was trying to beat up the teacher, and trapped him behind the tv, and then he threw his watch at the wall above some kids head and it exploded in a million pieces.
However, the teacher was poking fun at the child's anger, and provoked it. Mom had seen the kid many many times after that- and he never had an outburst like that again.
We are glad that Siku is there to help calm him- it's a good thing! He can see all the magic that is animals.
You know how to make everything better....
you have a very special dog there :)
Oh Siku what a sweet and caring doggie you are!
Aww..Siku you are the best.
Hi Siku - no one can be sad or angry with you around. I'll bet your doggie kisses can fix anything.
