March 8, 2010

White Dog lay curled around my hip with her head resting on my hand. Quinn was at my feet, his big bear paws softly gripping my ankle. I could feel the even breathing of his nap against my legs. White Dog and I watched the long lingering rays of late afternoon stretch across the floor until she, too, drifted off to sleep. It was such a sublime moment of peaceful sanctuary, just the three of us, in the quiet of the house that I was afraid to move lest I disturb the magic. Instead, I stretched carefully to turn off the phone's ringer and then settled against my fluffy white security blankets to follow the dance of the budded branches in the canyon breeze outside the window. "This," I said to my sleeping White Dog, "is why everyone should have a dog!"

And THIS is why two dogs are even better! Moma never had two dogs before Fergi joined our family ... and she has no regrets.
