White Dog has always left a dusting of white over the entire house this time of year as she sheds her winter coat. This year, however, we have discovered that two Eskies do not equal merely twice the hair...it is more of a geometric progression, in the order of 10 squared or 100 times as much! As Quinn joins his sister in "blowing coat" the red of the oriental carpet is invisible and dust no longer forms cute bunnies but big shifting tumbleweeds that lurk under furniture and don't even bother to hide on bare surfaces. The vacuum is pushed to its limits and fills about halfway through the house. We have strategically placed grooming tools throughout the house so that we can randomly grab the Original White Dog or the Other White Dog and curry out a handful or two of hair that will go directly into the trash instead of on the furniture or our clothes first. They both seem to appreciate the brushing (I would think the molting process is a bit itchy). There are no signs of this phenomenon slowing, either. Last Sunday, as we dined al fresco with the pups, Steve was petting Quinn until he realized he was sending tufts of white fur floating in the breeze onto the woman sitting behind us! When White Dog poses prettily and strangers pet her in public, she always enjoys a belly laugh when we are asked, "Do they shed much?"

We SO know what you mean. Mommy says it looks like there is snow on our dark hardwood floors. Thank goodness for the Furminator.:)

Take that mathematical equation and substitute six Siberian Huskies. We may need a search and rescue team to find the humans in all of this hair.

No, not at all. :) We love when isis sends her fur puffs floating into the sky where they dance and find a new home in the trees, or in the nest of a bird.

Blowin' coat!! What an experience. When we had Sibes & brushed them outside the birds loved to use it for nests. It was cool to see it disappear from the yard.

We just love to keep the humans busy - can't have them slacking off. We haven't started to blow very much yet, but it IS coming. TD is like a sheep badly in need of shearing. Phantom's coat is thinner but he has some tufts working their way out. Mom is wondering if Ciara will have a shedding, maybe not for this season.

Happy vacuuming.

My fur somes out too! Beth grooms me everyday so it just is in the comb and brush....she keeps it and she spins my hair into yarn and makes stuff. She said she wouldn't want it to go to waste....

Hi Siku and Quinn,
Mommy says she can brush me for an hour and still pull out the same amount of hair.

Dog hair is great material for nest building. We also leave out short strips of yarn along with bread pieces for the birds. Everything disappears. Hopefully in the winter, we’ll see a nest of my Eskie hair and yarn.

Hugs and yips,
Cappy

As the mom of four floofballs, let me tell you - it is easier to just go with the flow. Sure, clean up the fur tumbleweeds, but don't obesess about it. When we changed our floors from carpet to laminate, the tumbleweeds started here - at first we were crazy about it but now, we just chill when one floats by.
