White Dog and the Other White Dog spent this morning while Steve was teaching pulling out the gifts they had purchased for Father's Day, admiring their shopping sense and excellent taste, then wrapping the packages so each reflected that furchild's own unique approach. White Dog was a little miffed because Quinn had watched her shop...and copied her gift ideas. He observed the lovely package and ribbon she assembled...and tried with his big paws (and "boy" sense of appropriate presentation) to do "his" version of her box. White Dog sat on my lap and together we created a special card to top things off. She knew exactly what she wanted to say and Steve will know immediately the sentiment came straight from her heart. The Other White Dog was stumped as he sat beside me and we tried out ideas. Since White Dog made a card, he wanted one. He just doesn't have the same eloquence his sister does. What he came up with, after struggling, is genuine and touching and will move Steve as surely as White Dog's words. We will celebrate with a special breakfast tomorrow and give Steve his gifts.

Michael shyly came into the room as we were finishing up and rehiding the packages. He had written Steve a poem but wasn't sure whether or not to give it to him because "he did not want Steve to be sad." The poem, about Milo, is spoken purely from Michael's heart. Of course, he must give the work to Steve as he intended. Michael asked White Dog if she would post it on tonight's blog to share (he is very proud of the effort) so what follows is Michael's poetry.
Milo's Poem by Michael
On this rainbow bridge I'm smiling
Remembering all the wonderful times
I had before dying
I am not lying.
Most of the time, I'm smiling
Never forgetting all these good times
Know I am smiling and never forget all those good times.
I am not even lying.
We wish every dad and hu-dad a very special day with extra time set aside to enjoy your kids of all species and hope you feel the appreciation and love that your family sends you every day of the year.

Happy Fathers day to your Dad! Girls are much better at wrapping pressents than boys... I mean they try, but we are just better at it.

Happy Father’s Day to your Dad, Siku. I’m sure that you and everyone will create a special day for him.

We loved Michael's poem – it’s even more beautiful because he’s giving it tied with heartstrings.

We also put a poem online for our Dad. It’s not original, but it expresses what we feel. He's in New Jersey visiting his Dad and we'll make sure that he sees it today.

Hugs and yips,
Cappy and Ollie
