White Dog and I were talking this morning about how much of our lives these past few weeks have been focused on animal rescue and on stopping cruel treatment of animals. Michael's involvement at the shelter has been good for him but it also serves as reminder of just how many pups (and cats) are in need of homes, love, attention. Rocky's run away plight made us remember that these animals who are given a second chance are asked to place an incredible amount of trust in humans...the species that has possibly hurt and abused them in their past. Recalling Quinn's own story and looking through PetFinder listings makes us cry at the dogs whose lives are shattered when their owners move or have babies or become ill...many of those same gentle loving souls never make it out, but more amazing are those who do and find room in their hearts to forgive and understand and trust again. As a human I can only unsuccessfully aspire to such hugeness of heart. It is in tribute to every four-legged out there, rescued and not, who has shown compassion and empathy to one of us two-leggeds that we share this poem which we found on Cathy Gallagher's FB Wall photos.

Beth here! That was beautiful! I worked with a Humane Society a few years and could not believe all the abuse. I don't even talk about it because some people don't believe that could happen. Those poor animals! I would save them all if only I could....Thank Michael for all the great work in this area. The world needs more like him!

I hope that Michael keeps up he great work. If everyone would just pitch in and do a small amount we could make a huge difference.

This makes Moma sad. Not in a bad way. But a sad way. We are so glad to know you. And to know the lives that we now live.

Thank you. For everything.

Beootiful poem. I hope there will be more people like you! Sadly, I can see too many dogs even in our own neighborhood that are neglected. If only we could take care of all of them. But, lack of space prevents my mom from taking more than one dog.
