White Dog and Quinn didn't even argue when Steve told them that there was to be no bike riding (or Nature Center rabbit chasing) today. At 9 am it was already over 90 degrees and it was sweltering. Both pups had gone out to greet the morning on the deck as they usually do but had come back in almost immediately to lie on the cool tile and to drink never ending bowls of water. It was a day of minimal movement and much napping. White Dog thought she wanted to ride along to do errands in the mid afternoon but when Steve opened the car door and she felt the blast of heat from inside (despite the sunshade and the tree cover), White Dog headed back up the steps and asked to go back in the house. When he returned from volunteering, Michael wanted to take The Other White Dog for a walk until I asked him to slip off his sandal and walk out on the pavement...he yelped in pain and then clearly understood that a walk was not a good idea! An evening thunderstorm cooled things off slightly and now both White Dogs are anxious for a chance to go for a walk...we all joked that if this weather continued White Dog and TOWD will have to consider arising at sunset and sleeping during the day...What do you think of this title for the movie should that come to pass: Platinum Vampire Dogs of the Southwest?

P.S. Michael faced the dreaded "Witch of the Rescue Shelter" again today. We are happy to report that she had a much better attitude toward Michael and let him do his "work." When Steve picked him up she told Steve what a big help he had been. She didn't exactly apologize but Michael was thrilled that her "attitude" seems to have been adjusted correctly.

Walking on hot pavement is the most a horrible thing - the Momma seems very smart. We are jealous that you had a storm. It is still just hot here. Last night it was 9:15pm before Mom and Dad said it was okay to go out on a walk! uagh. Send some of that storm our way - please!

We know you have higher temps than we do, but it is just too hot here for anything. We so want to have a walk, but you are right, the road and the sidewalks will just burn our pads. And NO, we do not want to wear booties:)

So glad to hear the report from Michael.

Way to go Michael - we are proud of you. Many people would have let that person chase them away, but you refused, stood your ground in a polite way, and won some respect - not only from her, but from us as well.

Nothing like perseverance to win over difficult people.

Hi Everyone – it’s also sweltering here in Northern California. When we have high temperatures, Mom carries us across the street over the hot pavement and plops us down in the shade so we can continue our walk. It does get cool in the evening, so that’s when we get most of our exercise.

We’re especially glad there was an attitude adjustment on the part of that noxious woman at the Rescue Center and that Michael had a better experience this Sunday.

Hugs and yips,
