October 11, 2010

White Dog and The Other White Dog have gone pink to help raise awareness that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month.
It is through awareness that this terrible disease can be detected early and beaten.
Breast cancer knows no age nor is it solely a woman's illness; men can get it, too. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women in the United States, aside from skin cancer. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), an estimated 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed among women in the United States this year. An estimated 40,170 women are expected to die from the disease. Today, there are about 2.5 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States. There IS hope and progress IS being made but the first best line of defense is screening and early detection...awareness! Please help WD and TOWD save lives by sharing the word.

On an unrelated note, please reach out with comfort and sympathy to Watermelon Ranch, the rescue that Michael volunteers at. Their transport van was rear-ended yesterday while bringing dogs to the adoption center. One pup was killed instantly and several others were critically hurt. The driver and handler were all right. Needless to say, Michael is very upset over this and asked White Dog to please let her blog friends know.

Also, healing woofs are in order for Daisy Mae, the White Dogs' standard white poodle friend, and Rebecca, her mom. Daisy is having digestive troubles and might need to have surgery tomorrow. She is under vet supervision tonight for what they think is a bowel obstruction.

Oh we are so sorry to read that there was an accident and the dogs were so badly hurt/killed. We are sending out tons of purrs and prayers to them and to Michael too - we know this has to be so sad for him, and to you too, because we know you are sad too.

And also sending lots of purrs and prayers for Daisy Mae - we hope she will be ok, and if surgery is needed that it will go smoothly and she will heal quickly!

And we love that you are doing a post on breast cancer - it is so important to have everyone support finding a cure!
