White Dog and I still are chuckling over a phone call I received this afternoon. A casual acquaintance called and asked, "What are you doing?" "Petting my dog," was my reply as I sat stroking White Dog who was cuddled in the blanket overflow at my feet. Her soothing soft fur and my repetitive motion had lulled us both into a place of centered calm. "Oh," my friend said, sounding a little disappointed. "How long will that take?"

My friend, who is not a dog person, did not understand when I looked at White Dog and then at Puff, who was laying on the edge of the rug awaiting her turn, and responded "Not sure, I hope all day."

On a more serious note, but one that only someone who laughs at the above exchange will truly understand, Luke Robinson of 2MillionDogMarch fame needs the prayers and energy of the community to guide his course and to help Murphy in his latest battle. Our friend, Murphy, is his Great Pyrenees pup who walked across the country to promote Canine Cancer awareness. He is battling a second round of cancerous tumor growths himself...and this time it is not looking good. Luke is anguished over how to do best by his furchild so please send thoughts and soft woos and purrs of understanding and support. Cancer.Touches.Everyone. Thanks.

We think that petting your pets should take forever and a day (well, it would if we had our way!).

We are sending our best purrs and prayers for Luke and Murphy.

This is our first visit to your doggie blog, but we had to stop in and say thank you for supporting Brighton's Yule Tide Auction! Your care and compassion (and your bid, too) means the world to us!

I know how good it feels to just sit and rub Opie's ears. Saw a documentary that says that petting your dog triggers a mutual release of Oxytocin -- the nurturing hormone that women secret when cuddling their babies. Don't know if men do it, but I know both my husband and I feel all warm and fuzzy and relaxed when petting our Opie.
