December 26, 2010

White Dog, The Other White Dog, Another White Dog were certain. Still Another White Dog liked the concept but just wasn't sure about the reality. We were all discussing spending the afternoon walking along the river with Dragon and his parents.

Puff decided she was going to be brave and actually got as far as watching Steve approach her with her leash...but at the last second bolted for the dog door and into the yard. We told her that we understood and that she did not have to come along.

Nuka put on her "Walking in the Bosque" coat and tugged Steve toward the door...where White Dog and Quinn were already crowded waiting to get out and to the car.

It was a beautiful 50 degree day of blue skies and everyone was feeling nearly recovered from the rigors of our social whirl from Christmas Eve and Day. We met The Honorary White Dog, Gregg, and Candace and started slowly...strolling and sniffing. Gregg and Dragon picked up the pace and all trotted along until White Dog passed everyone dragging Steve at a dead run.

When all pulled up for a breather, Nuka eyed the river with great interest...and a look that said, "Hey! Why don't we go swimming?" Steve nixed the idea and the deaf girl pretended not to hear for the next quarter mile as she struggled to inch closer and closer to at least getting her paws wet.

Afterwards, we stood with the sunshine streaming on us for a few minutes and decided that we humans could tolerate sitting outside in the warm sun at Sophia's for lunch. This is White Dog's favorite apres Sunday activity spot because the wait staff always has "a little something" for the pups.

It was pleasant in the windless sunlight and before we knew it we were the only ones left in the restaurant. The staff clearly wanted to close so we marched back to Pumpkin and said goodbye to our friends...as we headed to pick up Michael from Watermelon Ranch, fluffy white heads, one by one, sank onto seats or cushions and eyes went into sleep mode.

We have been reading all your wonderful holiday posts even if we can't always get to commenting - still very busy here between a houseful of humans and lots of sick kiddos. But it is still all fun. So happy to see you all have been enjoying the joy of the season.

I wish we had restaurants like Sophie's where we lived.
