December 9, 2010

White Dog was resigned and settled herself on the chair to wait for eternity. The others did not understand and milled nervously around the door and paced. Tonight was the start of the new quarter and Steve returned to teaching but with an evening class instead of his usual Saturday morning one. White Dog remembers in the past when he used to teach two classes, the Saturday one and another in the evenings, and she remembers that these are very long nights that break the normal routine. The Other White Dog, AWD, and SAWD do not have a long enough history to recall that dad will not be home until nearly 11pm and that walks on this night are cancelled.

No one will eat...because Steve's not home. No one wants to cuddle or play like we do every evening...because Steve's not home. No one is comfortable with the sounds and lights from outside...because Steve is not home. The anxious anticipation is not calmed by my reassurances that he will be home (sooner every minute) or by White Dog's patient napping.

One thing is certain, Steve better be prepared for a flood of White Dogs flowing over him when he walks in the door!

P.S. If you haven't yet, please go to Khyra's Khorner and leave a comment about Assistance Dogs. For every comment left, she earns one green paper that will be sent to aid the program to train these hero animals. Khyra and her mom do so much for so many and here is a way to help them do still more. It is a great cause...and it only takes a minute to leave your mark! Thanks.

My three get thrown for a loop when I leave every week. It makes me sad to know I throw their patterns all out of whack
