March 15, 2011

White Dog whispered to Nuka to hush or she we would wake me, so I had a moment's forewarning to curl up and tuck the covers around me before Siku, Quinn, Nuka, Puff and Steve leaped onto the bed. "Happy Birthday!" they woofed and shouted as they tried to paw under the covers to cover me with cold wet nose kisses. I snaked an arm out and grabbed the treat jar (yes, we keep one on the headboard). Everyone sat for a treat (unfortunately ON TOP of me) and I was able to squirm into an upright position. There they were, my beautiful family beaming smiles and showering me with extra love! What a great way to start the day.

Steve made a birthday breakfast that we all shared as we opened cards and gifts that had arrived in the mail. Many were handmade with love; others were donations to Canine Cancer Research (a cause very close to my heart). I thought the coffee was weaker than usual until Steve pointed out that my tears of happiness were diluting the cuppa. I am one very spoiled and blessed pup!

After, we loaded into Pumpkin, all of us: White Dog, The Other White Dog, Another White Dog, Still Another White Dog, Michael, Steve and I and we headed out to the wilderness area to do some hiking. It was a beautiful day (weatherwise as well) and the area has a nice handicap accessible short path so that we could all share in the hike. The others then left WD and I to take a longer walk...and to give us time for a little meditative introspection.

Across the day I have received blog comments, emails and FB comments and phone calls wishing me goodness and joy. We heard last night that our missing friends in Japan were on their way home and were unharmed. I felt so connected to the Universe and alive with positive energy that my heart swells at my blessed life.

The White Dog Army joined us for chicken tacos as my birthday lunch was celebrated in the traditions of our Land of Enchantment. I want to thank everyone for today's magic but also for the constancy of your friendship and support everyday of the year.

Tonight we attended a Philip Glass piano recital. It was awesome to hear the composer's music played by the man himself. It was sublime. The Universe tossed me a happy little tidbit to end this special day. Out of all of the restaurants in town, and far from where the concert was held Philip Glass and the concert promoter chose the little coffeehouse around the corner from our house to dine...which was exactly where Steve, Gregg and Candace and I were enjoying a post concert birthday repast. Gregg was bold enough to approach him; Candace and Steve surreptitiously took photos; I laughed at at life's serendipity.

Then we went home to cuddle with White Dog, Quinn, Nuka, and Puff. The perfect end to a marvelous birthday.

What a great and wonderful day! All of it ... from start to end ... sounds perfect. And oh, that must have been some treat to hear Philip Glass live. :)

We can understand about your feelings about your friends in Japan. We felt the same way when I heard my relatives and friends there were all safe and accounted for.

Love, purrs and hugs to you all.
