White Dog and The Other White Dog rushed to the door when we told them that they were going for a ride this morning. Another White Dog and Still Another White Dog pouted at being left behind but brightened up when they got pieces of duck jerky and a whisper that the others were going to "the vet."

It was time for annual Wellness Exams and shot updates for White Dog and her brother. Quinn was very stoic and calmly marched into Dr. Julia's office. White Dog hates even driving past the building and begins shaking and crying every time we pull into the parking lot and turn off the car. She had to be pried off of the floor on the driver's side of Pumpkin and carried in my arms in my wheelchair, howling and trembling and full of drama. Besides being spayed as a pup, White Dog has never had a bad vet experience and all of the staff go out of their way to gently and lovingly handle her; her reaction seems unwarranted.

The nervous girl went first and checked out picture perfectly. She is the ideal weight; her teeth are in fantastic shape; and she didn't even notice the distemper shot (her rabies is good for another year). After going back in the Lab for a heartworm test (negative), White Dog was scratching at the door, ready to go. She nervously agreed to wait in my arms while Quinn had his turn.

Our Big Boy also is a good weight. He is showing some signs of weakness in his vision but for now only needs glasses for reading. Dr. Julia would like to see more chewing of crunchy things (not Quinn's favorite edibles) and she pushed us to continue trying to brush his teeth. As a former neglected street pup, TOWD's teeth show the signs of his less than hygienic and nutritious past. He stood patiently as he was grabbed and lifted and given his shots, even though his sister whimpered in sympathy for his ordeal. He, too, is hw-free.

And just like that we were done. Quinn politely accepted a good job cookie at the front desk; White Dog dashed for the front door. Back in the car, White Dog tapped Steve to get the car moving FAST and did not stop panting until we were out of the building's sight.

At home, White Dog regaled her sisters with greatly exaggerated horror stories about the experience as they all munched on rabbit/apple/ginger cookies. Quinn shook his head at the drama and went to find a quiet place to nap.

Just think. When it is so easy (and accurate) to know what they are saying in the absence of words, what they would say if they put human words to their thoughts.

Fergi, and then Jake, are shortly behind, in line for their annuals. We're anxious to hear what the vet has to say about Fergs. At least now we are fairly confident that the couple of days of anxiety was (simply?) her reaction to hearing the (occasional and rare) chirp of the smoke alarm coming from a downstairs room. About two hours after that was replaced, the panting and shaking like a leaf quietened. (We know, for sure, that her almost eleven year old hearing is acute ... we hope to get a somewhat comparable bill of health regarding her knees ... but we're doubting it. We may need some lessons in calm, cool behavior.

Good Wednesday, dear friends,
Jake (and Fergs and Moma)

hey White Dog Army,

Siku Marie, it is so funny to read that you are a drama queen! But, every family needs one to bring excitement to life! :-> I am sorry that the Vet frightens you so much, and I am furry happy that it was a pain-free and easy ordeal today. And, the duck jerky treats make it all worth it!

Quinn, good job keeping it real! ;-> You are a brave pup!

Glad both you and Siku Marie are healthy!

We're so glad you both had a great Vet visit. I SO where you are, Siku. The Vet is my least favorite place to visit.

Love,
Teddy Bear

I make a big stink at the vets, lots of shaking and drama. I have heard rumors that I will be off to see the vet next week to have my teeth cleaned. I am hoping it is not true!

Why are you so afraid, Siku? I like my vets just fine and the treats they give me, even if they do say I am too fat!

Kisses,

We totally understand, Siku Marie ... we think the v-e-t is sort of scary, too. Glad both you and Quinn got a clean bill of health, though! :)

Ah, the Drama Queen:) We all do pretty well at the vets, we get lots and lots of attention, but mom says there have been dogs before us who were never comfortable at the vets either. The important thing is the trip back home:) Glad both pups checked out well.

Oh Siku,
I am sorry that you had to go to the dogtor yesterday. I am happy everything is ok, but my big brother was the same. He had to be carried in, and he would shake like he was in an ice storm. Andy is thinking about taking y'all up on your offer. I told him New Mexico is far from Ga, but he said I can make it. I hope Mommy doesn't find out. She worries quite a bit about him. If she knew he was walking cross country, I think she would be cross with him.
