March 31, 2011

White Dog noted that March was, indeed, going out like a lamb...this observation on our beautifully warm, blue skied, sunny morning was made as she was spitting her vitamin behind her window chair. I would have been shocked and surprised except that Quinn had already politely left his on the carpet and stepped on it to crush it. Nuka (who eats EVERYTHING) pretended to take it and left her mouth open so it just fell out, wet and gummy, onto the kitchen floor. Puff just walked away and refused even eye contact.

This has been going on for two weeks now. These are the same chewable vitamins that all of The White Dog Army begged for Steve to give them as he was leaving in the morning for work. They have been getting--and eating--them since most of them came to live here! In the past, we had to watch that no one tried to steal another's vitamin chew or an argument would ensue; now, I would be happy if just one of the pups would choke it down. I have tried breaking them into smaller pieces, putting them in food bowls; reoffering every time a treat was asked for. Nope. Nope. And nope.

Of course back in the days of wildly popular acceptance of these vitamins, I stumbled upon a fantastic deal and bought in quantity. Now, all four pairs of black-lined eyes look at me in shock asking why in Dog's name, I did that? It is not like they ever really liked them and besides it is time for a change. Sure, I answer but what do I do with 500 chewable canine vitamins that you won't eat? Silence followed as the Army double-timed it out through the dog door.

hey White Dog Army,

Vitamins schmitamins! You can get the same nutrition from bunnies and squirrels and other outdoor yummies in your own backyard! And much more tasty than vitamins, too!

Tell your mom you will eat the vitamins if she wraps them in duck jerky treats! Or bakes them in a meatloaf for you. :->

Suka

p.s. Thank you for thinking of me today! I felt your positive, loving thoughts and it made my day much brighter!

I don't mind taking vitamins or medicine as long as it is disguised in something yummy!

I don't get any of those....but I don't mind taking any pills if I HAVE too....

Some vitamins and pills just need to be hidden as far as we are concerned - that is unless they are hiding in some yummy tasting stuff.

I'd tend to go with the bunny and squirrel approach LOL! Hey, tastes change over time, even in white woofies!

Very strange - is it a new bottle? Maybe a different odor to them? None of us are very crazy about pills, especially Phantom - big surprise there, right?

We suggest you wrap them in livergreat or liverwurst as the peeps call it.

You might also put them away for a couple of weeks and then re-intro later. They won't perish without them for a while, you know.

Want to hear something funny? Sagira is SO picky when it comes to eating dog food. BUT...she will chew up her vitamin like it is the best thing is the world. LOL

Yep, my white dog packmate, Reno, takes his pills in a spoon of canned dog food. Works like a charm.
