White Dog hopped up on the chair and Puff ran for the safety of her kennel when Nuka awakened with Spring Fever. AWD had been sleeping peacefully in an afternoon sun puddle when she rolled on her back and started flailing her legs in the air. Then she began yipping like a puppy and rolled all over the living room floor twisting and turning and squirming...the entire time shrilly singing her little song.
She jumped up and we heard her crash into the yard through the dog door and we followed her progress around the yard by the Doppler effect of her joyful barks. When Another White Dog returned, there was dried grass on her back and crunched dead leaves under her collar. White Dog just shrugged.
Quinn stood in the hallway and waited for his sister to move so that he could join us. Nuka feinted and bobbed at him, tail wagging her whole backside, bouncing on her back legs as she challenged him over and over to play with her. TOWD stood solidly, watching, and when the opportunity came, he walked around her and settled in at the front door.
Next our Spring struck girl dove and swam through the pooled blanket at my feet. She burrowed and wiggled demanding attention. AWD's joie de vie was contagious and in no time I was encouraging her to shimmy through my hands like an automatic petting machine and she was barking in glee. Under the eyes of the puzzled White Dog, Nuka (Nut-ka, as WD labled her) did her clumsy clownish version of a zoomie, crashing into everything as she went.
And suddenly, like an energizer bunny who's batteries were drained, Nuka curled up on the blanket and went back to sleep...and dreams of boundless puppy stamina?
