White Dog spotted a quail on the sand road leading to Watermelon Mountain Ranch, where Michael volunteers on Saturdays. Puff noted the spot and after we dropped Michael off, The White Dog Army clambered out of Pumpkin and ramped up for some quail flushing fun! It was an overcast, dramatic morning, and the air was heavy...perfect for picking up scents.
White Dog lead TOWD, AWD, and SAWD onto the open plains of the Mesa and started scouting the brush.

Everyone got excited by the smells here, but no quail...
Quinn and his sister scanned the horizon for movement.
The search and flush mission was aborted when it began to rain. The Army looked at White Dog who looked at Steve who asked, "coffee and scones?"

P.S. Answers from Our Earth Day Quiz:
1. Every hour, Americans discard 2.5 million plastic bottles.

2. What is the most recycled item in the U.S? From the household: Aluminum cans; but Steve is also right, lead acid batteries are the most recycled light industrial item.

3. True! The US population discards 16,000,000,000 diapers each year.

4. An estimated 80,000,000 Hershey's Kisses are wrapped each day, using enough aluminum foil to cover over 50 acres of space -- that's almost 40 football fields. All that foil is recyclable, but not many people realize it.

5. The united States is the #1 trash-producing country in the world at 1,609 pounds per person per year? This means that 5% of the world's people generate 40% of the world's waste.

6. About one-third of an average dump is made up of packaging material!

7. True! Every month, we throw out enough glass bottles and jars to fill up a giant skyscraper.

8. List one good way to reduce, reuse, or recycle or replenish: We saw lots of good ideas posted on blogs. The point is to do something!

A great hike!!! Too bad that the army didn't see quail...

Our garbage company has a great system where we pay per bag of garbage. That's a great incentive to reduce garbage...

Plastic bottles of water (the throw-away kind) are a pet peeve of mine. What a waste of plastic bottles.

Thanks for the interesting stats. Your numbers mean that each US citizen produces about 4 lbs of garbage per day? Wow.

hey White Dog Army,

Not sure about coffee but scones - I'm in!!

Looks like a nice place to hunt for fun creatures! I bet the rain felt nice after the heat. Were you able to find any little mud puddles to splash in? ;->

Coffee and scones sound far more fun than chasing invisible quails in the rain...

Thanks for the Earth Day info - I had no idea!
