White Dog spoke sharply to her brothers, Quinn and YoYoMa. It was her "I'm in Charge" Voice and so everyone stopped to listen. "Leave Puff alone, both of you! She doesn't want to play and you are bullying her!" The boys hung their heads in shame long enough for SAWD to escape to her crate where she sat scrunched as far back as she could huddle.

Nuka went in and lay across the Office door blocking the entrance and access to SAWD's place of safety as TOWD and YAWD laid down in the hallway. Puff was acting more skittish than normal and had not eaten breakfast. She seemed to be grooming a lot. I went to calm her and reassure myself that she wasn't sick with a UTI or something heart worm related (I am STILL very jumpy every time our littlest girl acts unusual).

White Dog pushed the phone over to me and I called Steve. Our Puff is 12 years old and will not get her final OK of being free from heat worms until the end of this month. That is why Dr. Julia, our vet, has refused to spay her.

When Steve answered his cell, I cuddled SAWD in my arms and WD pressed against her side protectively. "Puff is going into season." I said. "Great," he replied, "a new experience for The White Dog Army! Thank Dog, Quinn and YoYo have been neutered."

YAWD was "fixed" right before he began his journey to us. He still has stitches and is taking healing meds.

"They cannot finish the deed, but they CAN drive her to insanity with their pestering," I pointed out. "Oh wow, I had not thought of that. Things could get interesting. Do they sell puppy Midol?" "Oh dad, sometimes you are such a guy!" White Dog woofed at him.

Advice?

oh no, we have no advice to give other than lock the doors so no non-fixed boys find their way to her!!!

Oh boy...we hope the boys can leave Puff alone for a few days. We know it will be hard.

Even though the boys are fixed, they can still, um, perform. What we have always done is just keep everyone separated until the heat is over. If you've never been through this, it is going to get worse as her heat progresses with the boys whining, panting, pacing and going out of the minds crazy. Sometimes my husband will take the male to work with him for the day if he can to give everyone a break. It's usually worse through the day and will calm some at night.

I've been through it several times and if I can be of more help, you can email me. Good luck!

hey White Dog Army,

Boys will be boys! :->

Sorry to hear Puff is being annoyed by her bro-furs. I am sure they mean no harm, and don't realize it upsets her. I think the advice so far is perfect - just keep the boys and Puff separated until she is done. Hopefully that will keep the stress and excitement levels down for every pup involved. Good luck!

I wish we could give you some helpful advice, but we've never been in that situation. Maybe just keeping her in a separate room? Or set up and x-pen for her?

Good luck!

Oh no you are going to have your hands so full for a while. I know the boys dont mean to pester but it will be so hard for them. I wish you luck and hope you can manage to keep calm through it all.. Hugs GJ x

Poor Puff, and poor YoYo - he probably still has some pretty strong urges:) We don't envy you trying to contain the boys. Phantom and Thunder were pretty good with Ciara, both also neutered, but the end of the second week was probably the toughest. Of course, she was such a pest when she was younger that it may have been a bit of payback time.

Hope things go OK.

Awwww....Mom said dat happened a long long time ago to her previous weenie dog group. They were sibling pups...the boy had just been neutered and the girl went into heat. My vet suggested boarding one of them. We ended up boarding the brother until the sister could be safely spayed.
