White Dog refused to leave the blowing air in front of our bedroom window fan this morning...despite the fact that breakfast sausage was on the menu. I put my feet down from the bed and nearly stepped on Nuka who was curled up asleep. Puff and her brother YoYoMa stretched out next to each other on the floor where they could catch the little bit of air movement from the dog door AND the edge sweep of the fan's range. Quinn was sprawled asleep under the ceiling fan in the office, his hair rustling softly from the blowing air. It was only 7am and already it was hot!

We are admittedly, a little behind in getting ready for the heat at White Dog Ranch. The weather has been up and down and has lulled us into a false comfort at moving the task further down our pressing "to do" list. Our swamp coolers have not been hooked up or new pads installed (evaporative coolers, a life staple here in the desert). The portable fans are still out in the storage shed (except for the window fans that I made Steve go out with a flashlight to retrieve the other night when I could no longer take the White Dog drama of panting and sighing and lying sprawled like limp dish rags).

So the stalwart Army suffers in the heat as it unfevers paws and tongues with ice cubes...and the Universal balm, duck jerky. Steve has promised that he will be on the roof at sunrise Saturday morning to get the cooling system functioning and I am sure he will have plenty of supervisors to make sure the promise is kept in a timely and chilling fashion.

Until then, as I told my fluffy White Ones, a little sweat is good for the soul.

hey White Dog Army,

I feel your pain! It is furry hot and humid here, and I wonder what my human was thinking moving me here. I should be in the tundra about now!

Please don't melt! And hopefully by this week-end your mom and dad will have the house all set up for cool air and cool breezes for you pups!

In the meantime, have your mom pull out the hose and give you pups a nice mud-pond to swim and play in! :->

We LOVE our swamp cooler. In hot, dry weather they are the absolute best!!

Rottie kisses, from afar!! (imagining a cool tile floor with lots of room for doggeis to spread out.)

Sweating wouldn't be so bad, if it weren't so darn hot! Y'all have a great White Army Day!

Things are supposed to warm up here in the windy city, too. My silly mom forgot to make my grooming appointment (and now they are booked) I guess I will just have to bake until next weekend.

None of us are crazy about hot weather either. We are getting warmer by the day, but it is the humidity that is so unbearable. And it is early in the season for us to be complaining. Hope all the work goes smoothly for Steve and do tell him to be careful up on the rooftop.

We understand about the heat - it has been very hot here a few times already - and boy we are not fans. And we have short furs at our house, so having all that longer fur must be even worse! We are glad that you all had at least the fan to help out - hopefully everything will get up and running quickly and easily so that it is ready when you need it!

We agree! The hots sure aren't fun when the cooling system's not working. We hope everything gets squared away and that the White Dog Army is basking in the cool breeze very soon. Hugs!

The heat stinks! Mommy said she, daddy and Taylor have gone without A/C for weeks during one of the hurricanes they experienced. It wasn't fun.

Wishing you cool air and puppy hugs,

~Bailey

We have the swamp coolers and love them as well. We need to get one for Bokeh though. :)

Uh, as long as its their souls, uh, OK, but I'm getting all the coolers out tomorrow!

By the way, that little American Eskie I saw on our walk in the Red Truck about a week ago, well, I saw her again. She was furious, barking, snarling, and making mean faces at me. I did nothing to even alarm her, Mom and I just walked past. If you have any communication with her, just pass the word along that I am harmless, please.

Kisses,
Stella

Swamp coolers! I found out about these from my FL man - When the heat gets particularly bad here, out they come.
I'm sorry your suffering...Keep that ducky jerky coming!

Boy, the weather just seemed to change from cool to very warm overnight! Swamp coolers are very effective when you live with little or no humidity. I know cuz I grew up with them as a kid. I hope you all find your comfort level so you don't feel like you are roasting. Love, Blazer & Mom
