White Dog came rushing in from the yard when she heard Pumpkin in the driveway. Quinn, Nuka and Puff, appeared from different parts of the house to stand beside her at the front door.
Steve was back with YoYoMa from the groomer; YAWD's first visit to the gentle spa which takes special care of the White Dog Army. WD looked him up and down and as he passed by gave his flank a good sniff. Satisfied, she hopped up on her chair to give the others a chance to review our sparkling clean boy.
Even TOWD got brave enough to touch Yo's nose and sniff his fur. Puff thoroughly checked YAWD's ears, neck, underside and tail. Nuka quickly licked his muzzle and then yipped her approval (and for him to get out of the way).
At the groomer's suggestion Steve had stayed with Yo during the bathing and nail trimming in deference to his fear of crating, his jumpiness around new noises, and his blindness. Steve said our boy did VERY well; was curious but not a nervous wreck. The girls there are very soothing and efficient so in no time Yo was cleaned and his nails trimmed. They towel dried him but did not completely dry his coat using the blow dryer (they did not want to unnecessarily spook him). Finally, he has lost most of the staining on his feet and belly that marked where he stood (and slept) in his own feces during his months of abuse. YoYoMa is a very handsome pup and when brushed and pampered his show heritage shines through. He was magnificent when he got home.
He was also glad to be back. YoYoMa ran for the comfort of his stuffie, Piggy, and laid down for some serious cuddling with his paws and teeth. He did not leave my side for the rest of the day. Meanwhile every so often one or another of the WDA would come by and give a reassuring snort of approval.
