White Dog and I were working in the office. It was a grey and misty kind of day and everyone was a bit grumpy. Nuka had spent the entire morning "herding" Puff, preventing her from going where she wanted to and in general, blocking and barking at her at every opportunity. We didn't worry when Quinn went outside; then we heard the dog door flap not once but twice. WD and Yet Another White Dog were at my side so we assumed that everyone else was on break.

TOWD came back in and settled down for an afternoon rainy day nap. We continued working until White Dog called our attention to the fact that the girls were still not back and as we listened we could hear AWD barking wildly at her sister.

"That Brat!" I huffed. "If she is out there preventing poor Puffy from coming in she is in BIG timeout trouble!" We all went to see what was going on.

We watched through the deck door and saw Nuka yipping not AT SAWD but TO her. She was standing at the back of the yard calling and Puff trotted over to stand next to her. They both looked down and then Puff quickly snatched up and ate whatever it was. ("Oh, gross," sighed WD). Nuka moved closer to the side yard searching the ground as she walked. Then she repeated the call. Puff once again went over and crunched down whatever was being scouted out.

YoYoMa could not stand the excitement of knowing something was going on that he could not see. He let out a "Let me play" Woof and went bounding through the door. He broke the momentum of the hunt and both girls quickly came in trying to look innocent.

"I don't suppose either of you is going to tell me what THAT was all about, right? And Puffy, what were you eating?" "Good Dog, I just hope it was not yard snails," White Dog sniffed. "That would be just disgusting!" "Wait a minute. You used to love when Chef Richard made snails as an appetizer. you ate them shells and all." "That was snails, shells, BUTTER and all!" White Dog corrected.

Oh no!! Pretty gross, indeed. But it's interesting that they were "hunting" cooperatively ;)

Ironically, I just pulled 1/2 of a bone bit (who knows form what) out of Fenway's mouth while walking just now out in the dark. I hope everything "goes" ok....

Oh, not so yum at all! Isn't it funny how when one goes on a hunt, they all join in...one for all and all for the same thing! BOL!

I don't think I've ever seen one of those before. But I'm all for extra calcium in the diet!

Isn't it amazing what our dogs will eat? Truly yucky stuff. That snail does not look appetizing to me. Yuck!

It was grey and misty here too. Funny how spoiled we are with our normally clear blue skies - there was a bit of grumpiness in this house too.

That's really cool- we've read that domesticated dogs will not hunt cooperatively but RA & Isis would hunt together in their younger years. I'm sure Nanuk would be all over snails (ick)

We don't have yard snails here, but we also won't tell you what TD and Ciara snagged in the yard this morning:(

Have a great weekend.
