White Dog and The White Dog Army impatiently waited as Steve worked to install the operating system on my new hard drive and then whined in frustration when he announced this was only Step 1 of what needed to be done. We are thankful on this Thursday that we still have the work around laptop rig which is slow but is getting us through. It is an odds and ends type of day.

First, we ask for Power of the Paw to protect White Dog's BFF, Prinnie's grandparents. They live in Vestal, New York which is feeling the after effects of Hurricane Irene in that the river one block from their home has burst its banks and is expected to crest nearly 20' over flood stage. They are safely evacuated. Prinnie's people are taking on water in their home of 40 years and they fear they may lose everything.

The 2MillionDogs Puppy Up New Mexico Walk to end to cancer is now merely 17 days away. I am concerned that pre-registration numbers are low but hold hope that there will be a surge as we get nearer and that LOTS of people will sign up the day of the Event. Please send positive energy that this will be the case. We need all of the fighters possible if we are to truly stop this monster that has taken too many too soon.

The WDA is particularly proud of Michael who has joined a self-advocacy group, People First. People First is an organisation run by and for people with learning difficulties to raise awareness of and campaign for the rights of people with learning difficulties and to support self advocacy groups across the country. He took public transportation (which involved transferring en route) to his first meeting. He came home excited about the group and its prospects; this huge step of independence is one that we wanted to share.

White Dog, YoYoMa, Puff, and Nuka went with to the Park where the Walk is to be held to scope out some final details (like where electricity hookups were and the size of the concrete pad that will be the band stage). Steve took the day off and it was a perfect Autumn day. We have paws crossed that we have a duplicate on September 25th. Since it was mid day in the middle of the week the Park was deserted. The WDA had lots of latitude in exploring and rolling in the grass without rules or interference. It was an unexpected gift and all lived fully in the moment. And then napped the entire ride home.

Totally gratuitous photo of Another White Dog, Still Another White Dog, and Yet Another White Dog.

Good luck with the event. It will be pawsome. There will probably be more folks and pups who just turn up on the day of the walk. We have a similar fund raiser every spring for our local SPCA. People don't usually sign up ahead of time because of the uncertainty of the weather condition on that day. But they will show up if the weather is nice.
