October 20, 2011

White Dog yawned and snuggled in closer against me as a very energized Steve returned from his morning "guy stuff/shower." She pretended to ignore him as he tried to coax her into playtime; and didn't even lift her head when he announced that he was looking for sous chefs to help make a special breakfast.

Steve climbed over YoYoMa, who hadn't even stirred from his position at the foot of the bed. stepped around Puff sleeping in the bedroom door, walked past Quinn snoring in the office doorway and went to the kitchen (we guessed Nuka was in her bed in the office closet blissfully unaware of the increased activity). White Dog and I listened to distant noises coming from the food prep area for a while and then drifted back to sleep.

It seemed like mere seconds before the chirpy, filled with vigor husband of mine returned to us, clapping his hands and pushing us to "hurry up and get dressed, breakfast is ready!" White Dog sniffed and it DID smell good! We struggled upright and then into the living space, trailing all of the White Dog Army with us. There were lots of yawns and confused looks but no one could argue that the aromas WERE inviting.

"I got a little experimental and tried something new," Steve announced and the WDA looked concerned. "I think you are going to like it!"

With that he brought out the pups' bowls, all slightly steaming and handed me a huge bowl. The contents smelled divine. "It is oatmeal with chopped up dates and almonds sauteed in butter with a bit of brown sugar and cream. Bacon on the side for momma. And you White Ones get the same thing but with no dates because I am not sure if they are good for you but your bacon is crumbled into the oatmeal. Oh, and coffee with very heavy cream for momma and Yo!"

Our New Mexico mornings are already a bit chill so the warm cereal was much appreciated. The buttery almonds added a lip-licking crunch and when I looked up to ask the WDA what they thought, Yo was already sitting in front of me asking to share. Puff, the picky one, had her face in YAWD's empty bowl checking to make sure he had not missed an oat. Quinn reminded Steve that TOWD WAS his favorite boy and suggested a good way to prove that would be another bowl. Nuka finished hers and then laid down, paws on either side of her bowl, guarding it from anyone wiping the remains clean. White Dog with the confidence of the pack leader, daintily enjoyed her bowl and then sat staring at Steve until he relented and gave her a dollop of his.

Tummies full and cuddles given, Steve headed off to work and the WDA to sleep off the mornings special treat. I sure hope they don't expect similar splendor for lunch!

OOOH! Everything sounds so delicioussss! Except for the almonds part -- nut allergies in our house prevents us from having those. ;)

Hi Everyone - it sounds wonderful! We'd all love to eat at your house.

Hugs and yips,
Cappy and Ollie

Hopefully we'll be blogging in full force soon.

Grandma (91 years) had been in and out of the hospital and in therapy for a long time. Mom FINALLY found a place that would accept her and was affordable without having to take out a second mortgage on the house.

We've missed everyone.
