White Dog pulled at her leash, dragging YoYoMa and Michael along. "Come on! I cannot believe that neither of you has ever been through a corn maze before!" On this quintessential Autumn day, we were at Wagner's Farm which had a maize maze, a pumpkin patch, a petting zoo, AND an animal adoption event! I was there to promote cancer awareness with a 2MillionDogs.Org table where we shared information about the horrible c monster...and hope about advances made through comparative oncology.
The trio was taking a break to check out the attractions and to meet the Great Danes, Greyhounds, Bassets, and other pups there looking to find forever homes. They also wanted to see some of the clever costumes that visitors dressed their dogs in for the various contests being held. (Our favorites were the French Bulldog Bumblebee and the VERY tall Great Dane dressed as a jousting horse from the Middle Ages...we also could not resist the Papillon with butterfly wings.
We loved the children who came in costume and trick-or-treated at our table. White Dog gave a paws up to the little fairy princess leading her Golden Retriever "Unicorn." Michael was delighted by the Indian maiden carrying her Boston Terrier "papoose" in a backpack/cradleboard on her back (the pup wore a headband with a feather and had a bear claw necklace)..."Do NOT get any ideas," I cautioned White Dog who I could tell was thinking about HER possibilities.
Although the hearty, "Arrrggghhh!, Mateys," frightened Yo, he clearly approved of the pirate family: Captain dad in eye patch, tricornered hat, hook hand, and stuffed parrot on his shoulder; Pirate wench mom in tricornered hat, with big gold hoop earrings, bangle bracelets, ruffly blouse and skull skirt, with saber at her side; first mate son in hat and eye patch, gold tooth, lipstick scars, necklace of skulls, pirate sash and double pistols; baby sister in stroller with head wrapped in bright red bandanna, scar drawn on her cheek, peg leg tied to her bunting; and a vicious looking pirate poodle, black of course, with scarf around her neck, tricornered hat, an eye patch, and skull fabric vest...her leash was a plastic fake chain. "Don't tell Nuka," all agreed.
By the time Steve finished teaching and met up with us, late in the afternoon, most of the fun was over and we were cleaned out of most of our handouts. WD and YAWD were tired and Michael was starving. Steve DID get to see the little terrier mix (dressed like a witch) ride by on the back of a HUGE plow horse who was wearing a bridle of chrysanthemums and a pumpkin hat..."and so went the day," we told him.

Wouldn't you think that being Kansans we would surely have been through a maze? Never - but it sure sounds like fun, imagine the zoomie fun we sibes could have. All those costumes sound great. We especially enjoyed the vivid description of the pirate family. Two of the little bipeds will be pirates this year.

We have several mazes set up here in Ohio and they had on the news that this one couple actually got lost in it for hours. EEK! That would be my luck.
