White Dog got up very early to go downstairs with Steve to check on Michael (he was sleeping naturally and the swelling around his mouth had subsided a bit overnight). they left him sleeping and quietly snuck out to take Pumpkin to the dealer for some maintenance work. When they returned and nosed under my warm tucked covers, they were freezing cold...and, they reported, it was raining.
We cuddled until they warmed up and the rest of the White Dog Army began to stir. As they realized it was Friday, our all-day dad day, they excitedly started making plans to go to the Park and picnic at Sophie's outdoor cafe. "Nope, not today," White Dog informed all. "It is weather fit only for ducks!" "Like in jerky?" YoYoMa asked rushing to look out of the window. There were disappointed sighs all around.
So every pup got to go for "Dad and Me" time as they ran a special errand...to the bank...the post office...the pharmacy. White Dog and Quinn spent the morning at the Spa getting groomed and catching up on the latest neighborhood "word."
We did a lot of this:
Then as the damp chill made its way inside, we decided to make hot dog jerky. There was still LOTS of hot dogs left from the Bobbing for Hot Dogs game from the Walk to End Cancer. Dad simmered them awhile to remove some of the salt and fat. Then I sliced them into pieces and spread them in a single layer on a cookie sheet. Off to the oven they went to slowly dry at 250 degrees F for an hour or so. When they came out they looked like this:
The WDA sampled more than a few and then we bagged them up where they are ready for treats and special snacks.
Tomorrow Dad has to work but we are all hoping that on Sunday, our clear blue New Mexican sky returns and we can walk among the changing cottonwoods at the Bosque. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend as well.
