December 2, 2011

White Dog and the others braved last night's winds for their bedtime walk and Steve triumphantly returned to say everyone had done what was needed. So we locked down the dog door to keep it from flapping and to preserve the house heat a bit. Then we climbed into bed.

Within five minutes Puff was standing at the door scratching and begging to go out. Steve reluctantly put on his robe and carried her out to the yard through the back door to hurry her along. She came back in; the very chilly Steve climbed back into bed and we turned off the lights.

"Thunk!" "Thunk!Thunk!!" I sat up to see Nuka trying to batter her way out of the locked door. She looked VERY puzzled but by the time I had pulled on warm clothes to take HER out, she was already curled up in her bed fast asleep.

YoYoMa, who sleeps right by the dog door, was the only one happy with our decision to lock it down for the noise and flapping especially in the dark makes our blind boy very nervous. He curled up in his spot, looked up gratefully, and then went to sleep. After a bit of nervous pacing Quinn and Puff settled down and WD hopped up on the bed. Finally, all were able to rest.

Right before dawn White Dog politely woke me to tell me of her need. The wind had calmed so I removed the lock plate and we left it open. When she came back moments later, she was cold to touch even though the blankets. We wondered in half wakefulness whether it had snowed.

It hadn't, but the pressure was low and the sky very grey. There was a sense of impending-ness that made the White Dog Army, and humans, listless.

Mid-afternoon the snow hit...all 148 flakes. Then it was gone and the sky opened up to blue. It is still very cold, but the end result is very anti-climatic considering the past 48 hours.

Always an optimist, Puff pointed out that since weather disaster was averted, maybe tomorrow could be Park day since Steve has Friday, Saturday (the end of the quarter) and Sunday off this weekend! "Woohoo!" The White Ones howled finally showing some enthusiasm. We hope you have a wonderful weekend as well.

Love the photo, I too am still on the couch.
I don't have a doggie door. Mostly I think it's because MOM wants to check me before I come in the house. Why? Well I seen to have a love of skunks.

BOL....Well, you know what they say. When the door's locked, everyone has to go.

Hope you can make it to the park. Or come to Florida and enjoy our 75-degree weather with nice sunshine!

First off, I am SO GLAD you are all OK. High winds can be very scary. We have had some wind storms out here in the windy city that have been pretty bad.

Thanks so much for joining my Operation Couch Occupation! My dream is that one day all dogs and cats will have a home and a comfy cozy couch to nap on.

Your pal, Pip

That wind was very bad, gad you are all OK. Now could you send those 148 flakes of snow our way? We had miserable rain all day long and it is still raining.

Brr...sounds very cold and a good decision to lock it down to keep it warmer. You look very snuggled up on the couch. :)

Just because you use a crate to train your puppy or use it as a place for your dog to sleep doesn't mean it has to look ordinary or ugly. You can dress up your decorative dog beds and functional dog crate covers.
