White Dog and the rest of the White Dog Army have enjoyed having Steve home for two consecutive 5-day weekends, for Christmas and again for the New Year's entrance. They have gotten VERY used to having his attention on demand and chances across the day to just share their routine.

Today was particularly precious because it is the last day of Steve's extended time off; tomorrow he returns to his normal schedule...starting with the Tuesday 11pm late night. The WDA sensed the coming change and clung to Steve as though White Dog positive energy could somehow stop the movement of the clock. Puff literally sat on his feet every time he took a seat. Quinn (dad's special boy) spent much of the day standing between Steve's knees with his head resting on dad's leg.

Even when Gregg and Candace came by for brunch and an early matinee, Steve received the attention. Our guests were politely greeted but then abandoned so that the White Ones could form a phalanx around the man of the hour. When we gathered coats to head out for The Adventures of Tin Tin (and Snowy), the WDA surged to go along at Steve's side...and were crushed to discover that a movie about a White Dog was not being shown in a venue that ALLOWED White Dogs to attend!

When we returned, it was as if Steve passed through a row of velcro pups who instantly became attached to his side and could not be removed. Tonight Quinn lays against Steve's left leg as he works on the computer; Nuka is pressed against the back wheels of his chair; White Dog sleeps on his Right and Puff is next to her. YoYoMa, not being able to get closer has settled for lying at my side, his usual place, while I blog.

Tomorrow will be a rough day for the WDA and Wednesday is Steve's OTHER late night as well as Michael's return to school...it will be a week of getting back into the groove and sorely missing the unity of the pack.

hey White Dog Army,

What a bittersweet post. I understand how you are feeling. It is so hard when our humans have to leave us for such long periods of time. It is so sweet to read how close you all are, and how much you all enjoy your Pack unity.

Hope the transition goes smoothly, and remember, your dad will have vacations again so you have that to look forward too!

p.s. Thank you for the lovely comment!! My human will be e-mailing soon. Sorry she is such a procrastinator!!

Yeah, it's tuff for the pack to get back in the old routine. Same here at our house. Dad went back to work today and then it got cold overnight too. A double wammy for the pack to have to get used to. Can we turn the clock back to Christmas?

It is very hard getting back to normal. We have a new normal to get used to - dad is now officially retired.

Hope the week goes well for all.

Vacations, holidays and the like are always so bittersweet. When we wish we could just live in that moment forever and never let go. We have had those days, weekends before...seems like the dogs and I all crash when Daddy leaves for work. Those times are so precious, I wish we could all just suspend in time. :)

We know how you feel.

Change is hard. Just when we think we have the humans figured out, they go and change the schedule. Hope today and tomorrow go smoothly and quickly.

Your pal, Pip

Happy New Year to all of you.

I hope that you get back in the groove easily. However, I know that it can be tough, especially with Steve having such late nights at the start...
