April 15, 2012

White Dog and the rest of the White Dog Army sighed with relief when they looked out this morning. It was sunny and although a bit chilly for this time of year, it was, at least not sandblastingly windy. Good thing, too, they pointed out, since this morning the WDA (along with the help of Dragon and Sen-ge) had a mission.

As we readied to go after breakfast, Quinn put his head on Steve's lap and asked if he could stay home; the winds and changing weather had left him sleepless and he just wanted to nap. The others were reluctant to leave him behind but he settled down against the chair and challenged his siblings to do a good job and to tell him all about it when we returned. I laid two pieces of duck jerky next to him, kissed his forehead and joined the others in the car.

The mission of the day was to check out a new Park as the possible host site for this year's 2MillionDog Walk to End Cancer. We thought we were set with the pup's favorite duck pond park but upon investigating we discovered park and special events fees would top $800...meaning nearly 30 people would walk to pay fees NOT to end cancer. To quote White Dog, "NO ONE takes money out of the momma's fundraisings to cure cancer! Momma is HOPPING mad!"

Fortunately, Albuquerque's only suburb, had a warmer reception for the idea of our Walk and in fact, welcomed the chance to become a partner in putting on the Event...which means no fees plus vital help in many areas. They offered use of one of their premier parks in the community...one that is not normally dog friendly. And that is where we are headed.

Google images and information from Rio Rancho tell us the Park is completely handicapped accessible, has a pavilion and sound system, a lovely large grassy field, is completely fenced, is in a GREAT location, AND has tent structures for music and presentations. Keep your paws and fingers crossed...we will share our review and photos.
