May 1, 2012

White Dog came into the office with YoYoMa shyly following at her tail. Both sat down and politely waited for me to finish and look at them. "Momma," White Dog began, "Yo came to me this morning with a request that I think you ought to hear and consider. I think it is a good idea." She then turned to her brother who squirmed and hung his head. "Speak up!" she commanded.
YoYoMa mumbled down deep in his throat and refused to make eye contact...until White Dog gave him a shove from behind and nodded toward me. "Well, um, it's just that my Gotcha Day is coming up," he floundered. WD jumped in, "We know, it is this Thursday, the 3rd, ok we all agree on that let's move ON!" I gave her a cautioning glance and reached down to rest a hand on Yet Another White Dog's cheek.

"Well it is just that this my first Gotcha Day ever, anywhere, and I want it to be very special. I know you and dad already have presents hidden (I raised an eyebrow) and the others tell me there will be a party and I get to choose the menu and that will all be really neat," he finally was on a roll.

"If I have learned one thing since joining the White Dog Army it is caring about those in need; those who don't have it as good as I do; those without really anything including families to call their own." WD and I were nodding at YoYoMa with pride and encouragement.

"For my Gotcha Day I want to do something for other blind pups that no one wants because people think we are difficult or hard to love." That's my boy, I thought silently! "Anyway, White Dog helped me this morning and  we found a shelter, Blind Dog Rescue Alliance in Pennsylvania, that specializes in rescuing and finding homes for dogs with sight problems. Check it out, momma, they do wonderful work!" White Dog touched my leg to show her agreement.

YAWD rallied to make his request. "I want to hold a Comment-a-Thon on Thursday to help that rescue. The rest of the White Dog Army said they would pool their allowance to help, but I need you and dad, too. Can we, please? I'll even give up my Gotcha Day dinner if you want me to!"

"Big Boy, you make me proud. Your request is a beautiful one and I know the rescue that you suggest. They are very worthy. I am certain that I speak for both dad and myself when I agree that Thursday's post, on your First Gotcha Day will be a Comment-A-Thon. We will let our friends know so they can plan on stopping by to leave a comment." YoYoMa was wiggy-wagging with happiness and excitement. He turned to rush off and let the others in on the plan. I grabbed his ruff and planted a big kiss on his nose. He licked my hand and ran off to spread his news. "Yuck! No need to get gross!" White Dog said and trotted off.

This Thursday, MAY 3, join us in celebrating YoYoMa's very First Gotcha Day. For every comment left we will donate $1.00 to the Blind Dog Rescue Alliance. Please help make our boy's day as super special as he is.

I think you mean May 3rd, since we have already had April 3rd and we will be there too. I am very proud of Yoyo Ma for thinking of this.

Kisses,

That YoYoMa is a sweet boy. Mom has driven transports for Blind Dog before and they are some pretty special woofies (and peoples).
