June 7, 2012

White Dog and the rest of the White Dog Army bowed their heads, then WD tilted her head back and let out a long slow wail. One-by-one the others joined her in her haunting early morning requiem. We had rushed to check on the status of Dachshund NOLA  sister, Charlotte, who last night was poisoned by a skink, We saw the photo of the newest angel over the Rainbow Bridge. We are devastated and can hardly even imagine the pain of the giant hole ripped in NOLA's family's hearts. If you have not done so, please stop by to leave some words of support. What a horrible tragedy.

When Dr. Julia called later to check on Puff, she cheered with joy. Puff had made it through the night with no cough suppressant. Our girl still is coughing a bit but the steroid seems to be getting things back under control. The steroid has made SAWD incredibly hungry and earlier in the week Dr. Julia had suggested feeding her veggies and other fibrous food to fill her up without adding weight. "Does the fabric from a stuffie count?" I asked since our Little Miss had been discovered last evening calming hiding in her crate tearing off strips of a destuffed toy and eating it. On Friday we make a vet visit to follow up on the cultures and other tests taken, to check Puff's pneumonia and lung condition, and to chart out a long term plan of action. While she is feeling MUCH better, poor Puff is still a cosmetic mess with her shaved leg and still cough syrup stained ruff (if it is OK after the vet visit, our girl goes into the tub).

And while Puff is seeing Dr. Julia, guess who will be at the spa getting the industrial strength cleaning package.

Don't know HOW YoYoMa managed to alter his color from bright white to prison grey but see for yourself:

Finally, last Thursday was Steve final Too Late Thursday of the quarter (in two weeks begins Tuesday and Wednesday back-to-back late nights). To celebrate a "normal" day plus Puff's being home plus Oso's first visit, we took a car ride to Rincon del Pollo, the WDA's favorite taco stand where the gentle owner makes "her" babies special bistek tacos while I get to swoon over the nose clearing green chile chicken burrito. Everyone came home, found a cool spot, and napped off their taco stupor. By the way, "Little Bear" LOVED the car picnic!

We were incredibly saddened by the news about sweet Charlotte. So young, so sudden, and so sad.

Good to hear the steady improvement in Puff. Here's to a good weekend for all.
