White Dog wants to update everyone on Nuka before we share the wonderful day that Sunday turned out to be. The medication seemed be slightly helping in reducing the swelling but Nuka still winced in pain when touched or pottying. She walked sort of tucked under at the back and was obviously still in lots of pain. We called Dr. Julia first thing this morning and she had already received the Emergency Hospital's report. She said immediately, "I want to see her." "When?" I asked knowing that Mondays were reserved for surgeries. "How soon can you get here? I'll tell the girls to expect you." When we arrived, Dr. Julia was just finishing a neuter and the wonderful techs took our very frightened girl back to clean her up and shave the area (the ER had not...points off in Dr. Julia's book). Shortly after, Jessica brought Nuka back out and she was followed by our beloved vet. We were the only ones in the Clinic so we sat in the waiting area where AWD was more comfortable. "I am prescribing a pain medication because this infection hurts like the dickens! Clean her up several times a day and continue the meds they gave you. She will be very lethargic for the next couple of days and that is ok but if anything makes you nervous or she starts have discharge get her back in here...otherwise I want to see her Friday! Oh, and don't let her lick; as she starts to improve she will be itchy." Already she is less crabby to her siblings and spent the afternoon sleeping next to me as I worked. Neither of us will be happy if a cone is needed so please keep paws and fingers crossed that Little Miss Nuka, our stubborn fashionista will do what she needs to in order to avoid the very unfashionable e-collar!

Despite the entire WDA being short on sleep, everything went together beautifully as our amazing volunteers helped us to turn a lovely park into an even more wonderful setting for a Celebration of Hope wrapped around the Walk to end Cancer. Here are some random photos. Tomorrow we will share photos of the actual Walk and then the Tribute Wall that so many of you helped to make such a striking feature of the day.
The Park entry held our Wall of Cancer Facts

Suzy T and Friends welcomed our guests with lilting lovely Celtic music
White Dog and Steve attended the Doga Seminar
Dr. Welcome (who treated Nuka the night before) gave a presentation  on First Aid for your Pet
The afternoon band a local high school group brought groupies, a film crew, and HIGH energy that might have been a bit too rocking for some of the older crowd. But the kids from Countdown to Overkill saw this as hitting the Big time.

We're relieved to know that Nuka is in such caring and loving and qualified hands (not that we ever had any doubt) and our paws and fingers are crossed for her for her speedy and cone-free recovery. At the same time, we're glad to read that the Walk proceeded with all the support and enthusiasm and volunteerism that it did (not that we ever had any doubt). You all are AMAZING and we are so proud to know you!

Nuka...so glad you're feeling better. Keep getting better every day!

Looks like you had a wonderful day for the walk! I'm really surprised you weren't "sleepwalking" after the night you had before the walk!
