April 13, 2013

White Dog and the rest of the White Dog Army are kind of feeling their oats now that the weather is Land of Enchantment perfect and every one is healthy. Steve cannot handle all of the volunteers to "help" with outside tasks like watering the trees and trying to stay ahead of "caterpillar" seedies that fall from our Mulberry trees.

My supervisors are plentiful as I daily check on our potted seedlings that we are growing for the container herb garden. I must hold the peat pot tray down so everyone can see and sniff the daily progress and help decide when and which pots need thinning. White Dog taps me to make sure I remember to rotate the trays so the plants grow straight and tall.

The entire WDA is fascinated with the bird songs in the morning and the nesting activities going on in our trees. And slowly it is becoming fly hunting season for Puff and Oso as they stalk the window screens to protect us against invasion.

The warmer weather has brought Spring Fever to our house as well. There is a restlessness within the Army; every slight is magnified and dramatized...like YoYoMa squealing in mock terror and pain as I brushed his belly...or Quinn barking a wounded soliloquy when Oso beat him to the water bowl (one of five in the house).

Puff (finally finished with her heat) is driving WD crazy with her copycat and follow-the-leader antics of everything that WD does. If WD sits next to Steve, Puff moves to the other side; if she goes outside Puff is on her tail; if WD lies down in a sun puddle her sister is right there not just next to her but TOUCHING!

This reminds me of my sister (a year younger) who used to torment me in the same way. I totally understand WD's  irritation and frustration and was horrified to hear myself saying to the little white dog of my heart, (as my mother told me) "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. She wants to be just like you because she loves you that much!" White Dog found that answer as unsatisfying as I did back so many years ago when I thought to myself, "Nonsense! She is just trying to steal my identity!"

Sunday we will go to the Park and work on projects around the house. That will hopefully help burn off some the WDA "fever." Steve's goal is to make true Amy Tan's premise (in her book Saving Fish From Drowning) that "a tired dog is a good dog."

Hope your weekend is filled with sunshine and time for fun.

Ah, yes, spring fever has sprung! I love watching them discover all sounds and smells (and critters!) of spring. My guys have been doing a lot squirrel watching and chasing lately. One sits up in the tree and squawks at the Sibe kids, teasing them! Oh, so not a good idea!

Here's hoping for a wonderful and healthy spring for the WDA and all furkids!

It's true ... spring has sprung, and we don't blame you one bit for wanting to take advantage of it, White Dog Army pals! :)

Spring fever indeed. we at last have a little sunshine even though windy it is fresh. I think a good long walk on Sunday to tire out sounds just right.. Hugs GJ xx
