White Dog and the White Dog Army were glad for the cooling breezes wafting from the swamp cooler vents as temperatures pushed over 90 degrees for the first time this year in Albuquerque. Everyone loved the ice cubes Steve added to the water bowls. Some of the WDA like to bob for them then chew on their crunchy coldness; the others simply enjoy the icy zing they add to the water. Every one was happy that the holiday weekend gave us an extra day to plan Park time for Monday which was forecast to be cooler.

Here in the Southwest we have a lovely tradition called Siesta. A siesta is essentially an afternoon rest or nap taken during the hottest hours of the day. In Albuquerque the hottest part of the day, between 4 and 5pm, is also the time when the sun pours in our front room windows. To conserve energy and keep things cool, we typically close the blinds during this time, creating a cool, shadowy haven that brings on yawns and pulls the eyelids downward.

We hope you enjoyed your Sunday-ness and time together and that you had the chance for a good Siesta!

Mom says she thinks we like to have a siesta any time of the day we want:) Especially Phantom. The heat is headed here soon too, but for now we are looking at a week of stormy weather. Hope we can all get in a siesta or two:)

Happy napping.
