White Dog looked at me and asked, "what happened?" When we talked to the vet hospital this morning things were positive and we were making plans to bring Puff home. She would still need oxygen but last year we learned how to turn a solid sided travel crate into an oxygen tent...and I have an oxygen concentrator for my own use...so we had the vet's blessing to go.

Steve went to work and the plan was I would check with the hospital late afternoon and we would bring our girl home after class.

At 3:30pm I talked to a very puzzled vet who was asking permission to keep our girl for one more night. She was responding well to the medications and was fine resting in oxygen but still having issues in room air. But that was not the problem.

Seems late in the morning, Puff had a coughing fit that ended with her "alligatoring" on the floor of her crate, twisting and rolling over and over writhing. The event ended with Still Another White Dog passing a huge stream of urine and then lying lethargically. The vet said it was not a seizure, that Puff was fully conscious, and that her vitals returned to what they had been right after the incident. This did not fit into any disease profile they could connect and that puzzled them.

They want to keep Puff overnight to make sure there are no further occurrences. And want Dr. Ries their geriatric specialist who saw Puff last year to look her over. There is concern over her collapsing trachea and bronchial stem although the alligator incident, they admit, seems unrelated. So we wait until tomorrow.

Steve stopped on his way home from school to see her and got to stroke her head and tell her we all love her. She was quiet but seemed glad to see him.

Tonight the vet reiterated that she felt Puff, if there is nothing new, should be able to come home especially since we can provide oxygen therapy, but of course the final decision will be Dr. Ries' (a fine healer but NOT our Dr. Julia whose advice I so crave right now).

We have the modified crate nearly ready. The pack wants nothing more than to be complete. They do not understand and each is missing Puff in their own way. Even Michael is having difficulties with her absence. Please help bring our little girl home with your positive thoughts and wellness wishes. It is a fact that pets and humans alike heal better and recover quicker in their own environment.

I miss my girl.

We've never heard of an "alligator" event, but it sounds very scary and we're glad it happened at the vet's and not at home. Were sending lots and lots of rottie strength to the WDA and especially to Puff. Hoping she returns home to her own den tomorrow. Sending love and strength,
