White Dog snapped her head around in shock when Nuka returned from Dr. Julia's. "What the dog happened to HER!" the leader sputtered. Steve shushed her, not wanting to make Another White Dog self-conscious. "She's deaf!" WD reminded. "Yes, but she can sense you reaction and read your body language so be a LOT nicer!"

Chastised, WD slunk to the sofa. "What IS wrong?" Oso asked more gently.

"nothing is wrong. White Ones, we come bearing great news," I said as I lifted Nuka into my arms and kissed her head. "Your sister is completely clear of BOTH ear infections! Dr. Julia said her ears look clean and clear." Genuine howls of happiness sprang forth. AWD even managed a bit of a smile.

"But what happened to her head?" WD insisted. "If everything is fine why does she look like that?' I glared. "I am just concerned, that is all," White Dog tried to explain.

Steve sat down next to WD and I put Nuka back on the ground. Her siblings surrounded her to sniff and assess. Steve took over.

"Remember Dr. Julia packed both of Nuka's ears with a medicated time release gel a couple of weeks ago when she developed those nasty ear aches? I know so much has happened but think back." He waited and slowly the light of remembering spread across the WDA. "As the medication dissolves and does its work the infection drains out of the ear. That was the sticky tar stuff that has been clumping up your sister's furs right under her ear."

There were nods as all thought about the fact that lately Nuka has looked as though she rubbed the left side of her head in horse manure super glue. Even the birthday baths did not remove the tarry residue. The infections had been pretty bad and the drainage, as a consequence thick, particularly on the left side of her face.

Steve went on, "At Dr. Julia's they tried to just trim the blotches but could not get all of the gunk off, So they shaved the area. For cleanliness. And to avoid the possibility that it might somehow reinfect the ear. It is only fur after all and will grow back."

Puff rested her chin on the top of Nuka's head. "It is a bit surprising at first but then my sister's inner beauty shines through and all you truly see are her liquid eyes and happy smile. Just watch, WD in half an hour none of us will even notice the bald spots.

She looks great! She is healthy and infection free. Her ear fur will grow back in time, but she looks more bisquit cream than tar cream now, which is better. Licks, Andy

See the beauty on the inside rather than on the outside. And you are beautiful in every way. The fur will grow back quickly.

I have been reading blogs in a helter skelter fashion for the last couple of weeks, and have missed some of yours. Glad, so glad, that Nuka's ears are fixed and a little shaving of fur makes no difference at all!

I got caught up and you have once again shown me how to be a better dog Mom. Thanks, and I will be along most every day now.

Love and hugs,

Jo, Stella and Zkhat
