White Dog started to lecture but I stopped her. "I remember not so long a go an Eskie Queen who decided she did not want to be groomed and slipped her collar and came home on her own. Do not be so fast to judge, Little One."

We have been experiencing rain more suited to the English countryside in Spring than Albuquerque in September. Consequently you have to give the front door an extra hard yank to make sure the swollen wood closes tightly enough to latch.

Steve returned with YoYoMa and Taiko from a drizzly morning walk and after bringing both onto the sunporch and unleashing them, he went back out to collect the newspaper at the end of the drive. As he turned and started back, the door swung upon and a flash of white went loping across the front yards of our neighbors. YoYoMa sat on the front stair, tail wagging.

Taiko had decided to go on walk about! There was barking and excitement from the White Dog Army as Steve yelled out his name and demanded he stop. Which he didn't.

It became a game of Taiko running far enough ahead to gain a moment to stop and sniff, jerking his head up and continuing the chase just as Steve got near. And so it went down the block until Oh YES! Another White Dog hit the soft squishy honest-to-dog GRASS at the end of the block.

It was irresistible! Taiko looked over his shoulder and calculated the distance. Then he pranced on the cool wet lawn. Then he surrendered to the urge and dropped to roll and squirm in delight. Steve caught up with him, legs flailing in the air, grass stains on his feet and shoulder...but with a smile that said the recapture was worth the moment's pleasure.

Both walked in the door. Taiko shook and strutted into the kitchen to look into his food bowl...without a bit of remorse.
