October 24, 2013

White Dog waited patiently as I sighed and nearly talked myself into hiding under the covers all day. The rest of the White Dog Army would have willingly followed my cue. But she knew that I knew (and I did) that we could not remain frozen in the sadness of Nuka's death; and that it was time to begin including the new positive energy of a reunited Nuka and Quinn into our daily lives.

"All right, White Dogs, rise and shine! You, too, those of you lounging over the Rainbow Bridge! I don't know what wake up call is in heaven but you are still members of the WDA! And we are getting out of the house, turning snooters to the sun, hopping in Pumpkin, and going to the Park. The one with the ducks, Nuka, so get moving!"

Five physical bodies stood and stretched. "If you want breakfast before we go, you better saunter into the kitchen and get dad on it!" But first I kissed and greeted each as is our morning ritual. By the time I came out dressed, the WDA was clustered at the door and Steve was adjusting harnesses.

White Dog looked at me. "Of course I am coming, Little One! We SO need some zoomies and time in the grass."

Out in the van, Oso was a little confused that suddenly he was owner of the entire back seat. Nuka was the Queen of that territory and previously he had only been allotted enough room to squeeze against the far side. He was not sure he wanted the expanse of the entire "Way Back."

At the same time, Taiko jumped up to peer into the cargo hold to see what Steve was stashing there. He decided he rather liked being able to see out of the windows. Oso gladly gave him the seat and joined YoYoMa on the comfy mat on the floor. Puff held onto "her" seat in the middle row and of course her highness, WD, rode in the throne on the front console.

And we were off...to the Duck Park, to a bit of healing, and to reentering the stream of everyday life. "Thank dog, Quinn and Nuka don't take up much room in their new forms," YoYoMa commented as Oso lay sprawled on the floor like a bear rug pushing our biggest boy against the front seats.

I am so glad to read this. After K's death, my motto was "breath and put one foot in front of the other". It sounds as if WDA is doing far better than that... I'm glad that you all have each other.
