January 14, 2014

White Dog crawled into my lap and rested her head against me. "Why is it that sometimes it seems like nothing makes any sense? After the awful start she had to her life as a puppy mill breeder Fergie deserved to live a long time enjoying the love and happiness she found."

Fergie, our gentle WFT friend who lives in Colorado, had an embolism this morning coming in from her morning walk and unexpectedly crossed the Bridge and WD struggled with the shock and unfairness of it.

I pulled her tightly to me. "Sometimes there are no answers and all we can do is cling together, sharing the tears and pain and love. There are no words of comfort or grief-erasers. The best we can do is look to the memories and remember the wonderful times and hug each other like we will never let go."

We had the pleasure of meeting Fergie in the furs twice...once on the way to our first walk to end cancer in Fort Collins when it was just WD and The Mighty Quinn...and when Fergie, Jake, Nina and Mama visited us in Albuquerque in 2012.

Tonight we look at those photos (cry a little for our own losses as well), our candle lit and huddling together closely. Bella, who never met Fergie and is not prone to be touched, laid the side of her face in my palm and rested there looking into my eyes...just like Fergie did the first time I met her.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your furiend. I know Fergie was grateful for the time she had with her family and forgot all about her awful past life.

You're free now, Fergie. Run like the wind and continue to watch over your family from the Bridge.

But we know about the love that Fergie felt all around her,,
We are sad too and really cannot find words.
