March 14, 2014

White Dog and the White Dog Army were supposed to be helping me put together gift bags for this Sunday's Party in the Park, a Paws To People event to raise awareness about human and canine epilepsy in a fun day of cake, games, prizes, music and dancing to celebrate President's Day. But every time I paused for a second or left the room to get a needed item, the WDA disappeared. Even Steve seemed to find LOTS of excuses to go out into the yard or to the storage shed.

I will admit I have not made it easy for my family to conspire and put together a plan for tomorrow, my birthday. But then again, I suspect they rather enjoy the cloak and dagger element of secret preparations. Despite dying of curiosity I am proud that not a single White Dog has cracked under my attempts to bribe them for clues. Michael, on the other hand, almost caved but unfortunately White Dog came into the room before he spilled what he knew.

Whatever the plan it, I know the day will be a wonderful one spent with those who mean the Universe to me. We will share memories of the past year, joyful and awful; we will hug and laugh and cry; we will celebrate each other because my life is not just mine--it is made up of the pieces of each other that we freely give.

I have promised a very special friend that I will take time on this most powerful of days  to send her a message of hope and strength that she can draw upon when she falls down the dark hole she battles. The WDA will help me channel love and courage into what I send.

And whatever good tidings my family has in store to fill my soul to bursting will be compounded and magnified by the kind words and thoughts I am already receiving from those of you who bless my life by sharing my journey.

So I'll finish the goodie bags (with the chosen distractor, Oso's help) and pretend I do not notice the WDA's plotting...and open myself to the rising feeling of excitement as the dawn of my "new" year approaches.
