White Dog said to Steve, "Dad, you are supposed to WEAR green today not BE green!" Steve had just literally crawled back to lay on the bed sweaty and panting after sending most of the White Dog Army running in fear to my side at the sound of his violent retching.

At the Party in the Park Steve managed to dehydrate himself and set very sunburnt. But the worst was that after, he inadvertently food poisoned himself.

When we left early Sunday morning sans breakfast to set up at the Park, we had made a turkey sandwich with the intent of sharing it as we worked. The sandwich was forgotten until the end of the day, after all was disassembled and loaded into the car. We were both starving and realized that we had not eaten all day. Then Steve remembered the sandwich.

It had been sitting, unrefrigerated, in the van all through the warm afternoon as the sun baked the vehicle (despite its open door and windows).

Steve offered it to me. "Love, I would not eat that. It has been sitting all day and I just wouldn't trust the turkey or mayo." "No," he argued. "It will be fine. It smells ok."

At my insistence he agreed to wait the 10 minutes for us to drive home and to heat the sandwich in the microwave. It was my hope in nuking the sandwich he would at least kill some bacteria. But again, I pushed him not to eat it.

He DID keep his promise not to share any of it with the White Dog Army...thankfully. By mid evening, he was beginning to feel sick. All through the night he tossed and turned in digestive agony and began running a fever. By morning it was clear that this was NOT going to be a day of corned beef, cabbage, stout, or shortbread.

The WDA switched into nursing mode after Steve emptied his system and watched over him as he mostly slept through the day. Driving to and attending to work was not even a possibility. By dinner tonight he felt brave enough for half a mug of chicken broth and rice...the White Ones enjoyed the actual chicken.

Jig dancing has been postponed for this year in favor of soft cuddles and gentle licks. I didn't say "I told you so," but I am certain turkey sandwiches will NOT be on our menu for quite sometime.

"This too will pass," I told Taiko to reassure dad's VERY worried boy.

Oh dear, not a good way at all to wear the green. We hope Steve only has a mild case and recovers quickly.
