White Dog was trying to sleep. She sat on the arm of the chair next to me watching with increased agitation the antics between Zsofia and Sachi as they tore around the house, wrestled over and through anything in their path, and heartily sang a wooing  yipping screaming howling greeting to the day.

On a normal day this might have been tolerable, but this was Saturday, the day everypup rose extra early to breakfast before sending Steve off for his morning class. It was not even eight.

It was the charge that started on the couch leaped into the hall, nearly knocking over Taiko, rumbled through the hall scrunching up the runner bouncing off of the bed careening back through the living room into the kitchen crashing into the cabinets regaining feet upsetting Puff bounding off of the watching chair and startling Yo and rolling in a furious wrestling tangle right beneath where White Dog lay...that was the capper.

White Dog growled from the throat and jumped down between the two. Zsofia woo'd in her face. WD put a paw on Zso's shoulder and looked her in the eye. Zso started to say something but the noise withered in her throat as she saw the look on WD's face. "I think she wants you to quiet down and be more respectful," I interpreted for the Baby. White Dog's slow turn of her head clearly told me she could handle it without my help.

Sachi assessed the situation and decided that he was, perhaps, more tired than he thought. He quietly hopped up on his watching chair and shut his eyes. When released by White Dog, Zso crunched herself against my leg and settled into a curl at my feet.

White Dog came back to her spot on our chair and resettled herself. I saw her waiting for a boomerang effect or some act of insolence but none came. She sighed a deep breath, nestled against my shoulder...lifted her head one last time to survey the room full of now all resting siblings...and closed her eyes.

That White Dog is oh so wise. We are glad that all ceded to her good sense of what was needed.

Happy Mother’s Day to Mom Sue, and all moms everywhere. :)
